Towson University women’s club volleyball team opens their spring season with a third place medal in University of Maryland’s Spring Fling tournament on Saturday, February 20th. This is the highest the team has placed in five seasons.
The team started off the tournament with a win against George Washington University and then continued the winning streak after defeating Loyola. Mount Saint Mary’s beat the tigers in the first match, but the Tigers countered by winning the second match. Coming off strong, the lady Tigers prepared to take on the host and team to beat, University of Maryland.
The team felt positive and pumped for the next match. “We are full of confidence and ready to play,” Cassie Wertman, team captain said. “We have never beat Maryland before but I think this game will be different.”
Towson won the first match 25-20. However, Maryland followed by winning the second match 25-22. Because Towson split games with Maryland and Mount Saint Mary’s, the Tigers placed third behind Johns Hopkins and American University.
